  • 05 April 2023

On Monday, Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan officially became the first owner of the country's indigenous electric vehicle (EV) produced by Türkiye'nin Otomobili Girişim Grubu (TOGG), also known as Togg. The fully electric C-segment SUV, model T10X, was delivered in a ceremony at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan. The vehicle features the "Anadolu" color, inspired by the sincerity and passion of Anatolian lands. The second vehicle delivered on Monday will be used as an official car and features the "Gemlik" color, named after the blue waters of the district where Togg's campus is located.

Erdoğan called it the realization of the nation's 60-year dream and said that Togg was born as a symbol of Türkiye's technological development, economic growth, and global reputation. The second delivery is set to be made to Erdoğan's Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev. The demand for Togg's vehicles was so high that the company raised the number of units to be delivered from 12,000 to 20,000 as of April.

Over 177,400 people submitted preorders for the vehicle in just 21 days. Togg's first model will be sold with one engine and two battery options, featuring battery packs with capacities of 52.4 and 88.5 kilowatt-hours, offering ranges of 314 and 523 kilometers, respectively. The first version can accelerate from zero to 100 kph (62.14 mph) in 7.6 seconds, while the second version can do it in 4.8 seconds.

Togg, a consortium of five Turkish companies, manufactures the vehicle in cooperation with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB). The brand aims to produce 1 million vehicles across five segments by 2030, and the current production capacity stands at around 100,000 vehicles per year, expected to reach 175,000 once Togg's factory in the Gemlik district reaches total capacity. Togg also plans to manufacture another four models, a sedan, C-hatchback, B-SUV, and B-MPV, by 2030.
